Frequently Asked Questions

We've answered some common questions about the NDIS and how to get started with Personalised Disability Care. Don't see your particular query answered? Please call us on 0402 044 060 or email info@personaliseddisabilitycare.com.au. We'd love to assist.

What is the NDIS?

The NDIS stands for National Disability Insurance Scheme. It’s an Australian government initiative that provides funding to eligible people with disability to gain more time with family and friends, greater independence, access to new skills, jobs, or volunteering in their community, and an improved quality of life. The NDIS is run by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).

What supports can I get from NDIS?

You can receive funding for a range of supports depending on the severity of your disability and whether or not you meet the criteria. Supports can include help with personal in-home care, nursing care, travel / transport, assistance with employment and accommodation, community participation, assistive technology and high intensity needs.

What are the eligibility requirements for the NDIS?

To be eligible for the NDIS, there are three main criteria a person must meet:

  1. Age: You must be under 65 years of age when you first apply for the NDIS.
  2. Residency: You must live in Australia and be an Australian citizen, hold a Permanent Visa, or a Protected Special Category Visa.
  3. Disability requirements: You must have a permanent disability that significantly affects your ability to take part in everyday activities, or a developmental delay.

You can find out more about the eligibility criteria here.

How do I apply for the NDIS?

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for the NDIS by completing an Access Request Form. Make sure you have proof of ID, proof of residence and proof of your disability or any documentation from your doctor ready when you apply.

How does the NDIS planning process work?

The NDIS planning process is a collaborative effort between the participant and the NDIA. Once you are deemed eligible, a plan will be created which outlines your supports and services that will be funded through the NDIS. This plan is tailored to your individual needs and goals, and includes three types of budgets: Core, Capacity Building, and Capital. You can learn more about the planning process here.

Who can manage my NDIS Plan?

The NDIA can manage your plan, or you can ask a plan manager for assistance. You can also self-manage your plan, in which case you will be in charge of making payments on time to your providers and keeping track of your own budget.

What are Service Agreements and why are they important?

Service agreements are contracts between an NDIS participant and a service provider, like Personalised Disability Care. They outline the type of supports provided, the cost of those supports, and how and when supports will be delivered. Service agreements are important as they ensure both parties understand their rights and responsibilities.

What makes Personalised Disability Care (PDC) different from other providers?

One of the key differences is PDC's commitment to individualised and consistency support. Clients will always have the same support team, which fosters a sense of familiarity and trust. Additionally, PDC stands out because of our highly trained team with diverse range of backgrounds, offering our clients ultimate choice in selecting support workers that best fit their personality, lifestyle and culture.

Will I always have the same support team from PDC?

PDC understand the power of consistency and the importance of building strong relationships between participants and their support teams. Therefore, we aim to ensure participants continue to work with the same support team throughout all the stages of your life.

How do I get started with PDC?

Simply fill out our Referral Form, call us on 0402 044 060 or send an email to info@personaliseddisabilitycare.com.au describing your disability and your support needs.
